Cigs @ 23:45

I also enjoyed 5 hours of smoking in the pub. I did so so I could say I smoked in pubs on the day before the Smoking indoors Ban came into effect. When they ban cigs all together (they will. No..seriously they will. Eventually. And then they will start on beer, followed by coffee....then antidepressants...) I intend to buy another packet of cigs and smoke them the day before too. You watch me...even if I'm dying of emphasemia I will be chuffing away on the last day enjoying my eroded democratic right. And nobody can stop me....not even you pesky kids with that damn dog.

Tell it like it is, Mr Stegs! There was a wonderful discussion on the subject on Radio 4 last night. Apparently, part of the problem is the fact that the poor smoke and, according to the government bimbo put up to make the pitch for the 'you must not smoke in an enclosed public space' law, she, along with the backing of legality, was saving the poor from themselves because they didn't know any better. Patronizing git! Loved it when another anti-smoking gentleman pointed out the flaw in her argument ie if you are rich then you do not need to adhere to said law as it would appear not to apply to the well-heeled! After that she seemed to get lost in a ... um ... 'fog' of vitriolic abuse directed at any other member of the panel who didn't wholeheartedly support her point of view. Lots of talk about 'poor barmen' being subjected to the smoking habits of other people when they are only trying to earn an honest crust, (on the minimum wage, no doubt)! Would have felt more sympathy for the woman if she had bothered to raise the issue, as some of the other panelists did, that her argument was based on the side-effects of poverty and why didn't she do something about that? I also liked the scientist, who kept his head when all about were losing theirs, who pointed out that the scientific effects of second-hand smoke on other people had not been proved to the same extent that say - my example not his - dropping an 'A' bomb on a couple of cities in Japan had! I've smoked for years, and yes I know it's bad for me, but I rarely drink, don't drive, don't fly all over the world - on holiday - or because the government pays me to go to some conference in Ickybickyland, filling the atmosphere with even more pollutants, don't smoke around people who don't like it (even in my own home), don't smoke in non-smokers' houses, and try not to fart on Sundays so that I will not add to the hole in the ozone layer!
I want a new law brought into force - Do-gooders, who adhere to all creeds and pseudo-science for the 'good of others' - should be placed in a large pot of cold water, and slowly brought to the boil! But then that's only my opinion and far be it from me to foist such thoughts on my fellow man! Poverty sucks but all you 'poor' people out there who might read this, take heart, your government loves you ... um ... but you won't be getting any additional help for a while - once we all stop smoking the government will have to tax the arse off the rich to pay for everything! Can't see that one happening, can you?! :-)

we don't! We live on a diet of Lambert & Butler, kebab meat, pot noodle (on a Sunday) and anything offered by Farmfoods Freezer Centres.

... and bloody good luck to you! :-) I'd eat a kebab if it contained essence of politician because they've lived off me for long enough! After all, we pay their wages or have they conveniently forgotten that fact?! It's not the smoking ban I object to, it's the false science and holier-than-thou delivery that gets up my snoot!

Wow! A la Bugsy Malone? With pedal cars and custard pies? Goody, can I be a buxom barmaid please - I haven't got the looks anymore but the buxom bit still applies!
It's a good thought though, some of the best American literature came out of that era. Does constraint lead to an explosion of liberalism I wonder?

I imagine that it will end up being like the buses. I remember when they made them none smoking but you could always count on some trackie wearing Spekehead sparking up a joint on the top deck.
