Ah the M6. Got to love the M6.

For those that remain who are not of an British persuasion, the M6 is one of the two major north bound motorways in the UK. (ie, they travel North from Londonish and yes there is more to the UK than just London you know....). It runs from just outside Rugby to almost Scotland, right through the heart of Birmingham and teeters on the edge of the Lake District.

Despite it's long length, wide girth and variable speed control zones it never fails to be incident free. Journey times of 2 and a half hours can triple just because someone carelessly leaves a motorcyclist on the road or a lorry decides that it wants to have a lie down or someone decides to brake for no reason what so ever.

That is why it took me nearly 4 hours to travel a usual journey of 2 and a half.

Well really, it's not like you had anything important to do, right?

Exactly. I think more people should spend time in traffic jams on the M6. It's kind of spiritual.

I didn't realise there was anywhere outside the M25.

Some would argue that there's nothing beyond the Great North circular.

That's so weird that the country extends north of London. I never knew that because all the maps you buy down south are blank north of London with the legend "ere be dragons". I'm somewhat disappointed to learn it's not true.

There are plenty of dragons up north. Most of them migrate from the south.

Well that can't be true. Nobody from the south would ever travel north of their own volition!

Sometimes even long length and wide girth are not enough.

The M62 suffers similar car-park-like issues, although this could have something to do with it crossing the Pennines and having many waggons/lorrys/HGVs/idiots towing caravans/people driving really big slow vehicles that just shouldn't be allowed on the motorway in the first place* using it and trying to over-take each other while going up a bloody hill.
