The bus stop was over a mile from my home so once I got off it I had to walk the rest of the way. There wasn't a lot of car ownership in those days so having a lift was not an option! To wet your appetite for the good old days we had conductors on the buses then!!!

There wasn't a bus service in my village until I was 11, and on the infrequent occasions we used it after that I would always go with a friend anyway. I think I first travelled alone on a bus once we'd moved to a town, and I went into Oxford by myself as "an alternative to going to school". Ahem.

I was 5 or 6, and school finished early so I took the bus into town to meet my mother at her office instead of waiting for her to get the bus out to me. Luckily we didn't pass each other on different buses. She got quite the fright to see me.

St John Juniors, so probably 7 or 8? Mum took me to the stop at this end, and my grandmother met me at the stop at the other end, and it was about 2 stops in total :)
