Fallout from the Fallout

While out for a socially acceptable distant stroll in the empty Northamptonshire countryside, Mrs Gnomepants and I looked at the positives and possible issues that could arise because of recent viral events.

1. There are probably lots of affair having people unable to see their bit on the side.

2. There are probably now lots of people holed up at home with people they dislike.

3. DIY stores will probably experience a boom as people do all those projects they have put off.

Being week 4 of no job, I have notice a distinct drop in the amount of well paid jobs and a rise of poorly paid "temporary" work in distribution and logistics. To mitigate , I've brought my no-job strategy forward a month and began my application for benefits. Cancelling of subscriptions and notifying debtors of my situation. I don't foresee any jobs arising soon.

News reached me on Friday that the company I worked for is now laying off more people with the added threat of a 25% pay-cut for those that remain. I worry for many of them. Things are not going to be good for a while if this continues.

Locally, those able in the council are meeting tomorrow evening to put in place emergency tactics. They are currently discussing the use of fascist backed WhatsApp as conferencing software which, in my mind, is akin to buying Der Stürmer in thirties Germany or the Daily Mail in modern times.  Unfortunately, as I am currently suffering from a cough (related to a common cold) whilst also considered one of those "at risk" due to my heart condition, I will not be attending.

Meanwhile, both sets of next door neighbours are busying themselves with various DIY tasks. Mr & Mrs Nice are busying themselves painting their fence and outdoor furniture. Barbie and Ken are doing some DIY demolition in their back bedroom whilst Mr Sour Grapes across the road is painting the woodwork of their porch.

Surprisingly traffic on the fast road outside does not seem to have reduced that much. I guess there are a lot of "essential" staff going about their business in Daventry. Who'd have thought it was the epicentre of "key workers"?

Also this weekend, as a break from the norm, Mrs Gnomepants v2.0 and I tried a bit of Randonauting (see or the reddit subgroup /r/randonauts (why more people in the UK don't use Reddit I will never know)). We had a mystical experience and discovered a pen.
