18th April 2011CommentsAll the hippies seem to be saying AV, and all the capitalists FPTP. I need to find the BBC website video that explains it using crisps.
(no subject) - (Anonymous) are you playing cricket? 'cos from this vantage point of 2 feet away from you it doesn't look like it I think it is the way to go really, looks a bit confusing but may give smaller parties more of a chance... Thinking back, how many election candidates did you have in your last local election? Were all the major parties represented? Hmmm. Ok. I ask because some years back when I lived in Liverpool there were only 2 candidates running in the local election and I was trying to think how AV might have worked in that situation. Both candidates were parties who wouldn't typically get my vote I can't make my mind up. I've got a horrid feeling I'm going to be stood in that little booth on May 5th still trying to decide! I can see the merits of both cases. I'm currently an undecided. Although I'm thinking slightly more in favour of FPTP. If the public have voted and one party has clear a majority but less than 50% of the vote, while the other 3 or 4 parties all have a equal share of the remaining vote. then in my opinion the public have decided that their first choice of candidate. It seems a bit unfair if through jiggery-pokery everyone else votes get changed about and the third choice wins by default. The Labour Leadership election proves the point. Ed was always in second place to David right up until the very final elimination. Most Peoples first choice lost out because of jiggery-pokery |
